Get Sessyn

Stable Sessyn is the one to use every day: it is the build in the Chrome Web Store. The beta, further down, carries newer work for people who want to try it first.

This page offers stable version 0.2.75. The extension shows its own version next to the Sessyn name on its setup page — if the two differ, you are running an older build, or looking at a cached copy of this page.

Get Sessyn from the Chrome Web Store

Sessyn is in the Chrome Web Store, which installs it and keeps it up to date (a new version reaches the store after Google reviews it). Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi install from there too.

On a phone: Chrome for Android and iOS does not run extensions, so the store listing is for desktop. Safari on iPhone and iPad takes extensions only from an app on the App Store; a Sessyn app is in the works. A Safari user today cannot install Sessyn.

For Firefox and Safari, or to install by hand, download the same build below.

Download Sessyn 0.2.75

Each archive is the extension itself — unpacked files, nothing to run as an installer.

Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi

Full blocking, cookie analysis, and site data clearing.

Firefox

Everything above, plus container-based storage partitioning. Loads temporarily only — see below.

Safari

Not installable from here. Safari takes extensions only from an app on the App Store, on iPhone, iPad and Mac alike. An App Store release is in the works; Sessyn on Safari explains and analyzes cookies but cannot block, because Safari has no blocking API, and the interface says so.

The file below is the raw build for developers with Xcode (see Load It). It does nothing on its own in Safari.

Check What You Downloaded

A privacy extension is a useful thing to impersonate, because a fake one gets exactly the permissions you were trying to control. Verify the archive before you load it. Download SHA256SUMS.txt into the same folder, then run:

shasum -a 256 -c --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS.txt

On Windows, use certutil -hashfile <file> SHA256 and compare the value by eye. If it does not match, do not load it.

When you load the extension, your browser will list the permissions it asks for. A real Sessyn asks for blocking content, local storage, and access to the current tab — and nothing else up front. If something calling itself Sessyn wants your browsing history or access to all your data on every site before you have used a single feature, it is not Sessyn.

Load It

On Chrome and its relatives the store is the easier way. These steps are for Firefox, Safari, or installing by hand.

Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi

  1. Unzip the archive. Keep the folder somewhere permanent — the browser reads it from disk every launch, so deleting it uninstalls Sessyn.
  2. Open the extensions page: chrome://extensions (Edge: edge://extensions).
  3. Turn on Developer mode.
  4. Choose Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder — the one containing manifest.json.

Firefox

  1. Open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox
  2. Choose Load Temporary Add-on and select the downloaded .zip file directly.

Firefox removes temporary add-ons when you close it, so you will need to load it again each session. That is not a bug in Sessyn: release builds of Firefox only install add-ons signed by Mozilla, and signing happens at store submission.

Safari

Safari cannot load a web extension from a folder. The build has to be converted into an app first, which needs Xcode on macOS:

xcrun safari-web-extension-converter path/to/unzipped-folder

Then run the generated project, and enable Sessyn in Safari’s Extensions settings with Allow unsigned extensions turned on in the Develop menu. If that sounds like more trouble than it is worth, it probably is — wait for the store release.

What a Download Does Not Do

  • It does not update itself. A store install updates itself; a download does not. To move to a newer version, download it and load it again.
  • Its tracker rules still update. Stable and beta both check sessyn.io for signed rule updates, so a rule fix reaches you without a new download.

We will never email you an installer, and we will never ask you to install Sessyn from anywhere except this page or an official browser store. If a Sessyn build reaches you any other way — an ad, a download site, a message — it is not ours. Everything we publish is listed on this page with a checksum.

Beta

Try the Beta

There is no beta right now: stable 0.2.75 is the newest Sessyn. A beta carries new work on its way to the next stable release, and appears here when there is one.
